Jules Bartling is an emerging artist who divides her time between Santa Barbara and New York City. Charcoal is her favorite medium as it falls somewhere between drawing and painting and it’s softness lends itself beautifully to the curved forms of the human body which inspire Jules’ work. A trained dancer and theatre major, Jules is always trying to capture a sense of movement and exploration of the human form in her art work. Jules spent her childhood painting alongside her Lita (her grandmother), who was an artist and experienced a catastrophic accident that left her with only limited mobility in her right arm. Jules bore witness to how art helped her grandmother get through the darkest times and how healing it was for the two of them to be able to do something they both loved together.
“Although she’s not here, my love for visual art is rooted in my love for her and the time we spent together.” -Jules
